In the finale, heavyweights scheduled for four, Chicago amateur standout Nick Mazurek made his long awaited pro-debut with a 1st round annihilation over Tim Dunn (0-3) Manitowoc, WI. Dunn, whose midsection resembled that of a gentle Florida manatee, was an inviting target for the jabs of Mazurek as the fight began. An attempt by the Wisconsin fighter to rough Mazurek up proved futile, as he was backed into a corner and stunned with a right hand to the head by Mazurek. Dunn, with nowhere to escape, covered up and took blistering combinations to the body, with the left hooks of Mazurek appearing to be inserted up to the elbow. With the pummeling showing no signs of abating, referee David Smith rightfully called a halt to the contest at the 1:30 mark.
Keep an eye on Nick Mazurek as his pro career unfolds. The young man has skills, not to mention crunching power, and if trainers Sam Colonna and Rita Figueroa can iron out some of the mechanical rigidness he still possesses, they just might have something on their hands.
